This August drummer Bruce Burgess, percussionist Marco Zonka, and sitar master Deobrat Mishra will be performing and recording a live musical composition known as Prajnapartamita meaning "the perfection of wisdom. The song itself is roughly about 60 minutes in length. Musically it will be a radical combination of western drumming and traditional Indian Raga. From a drummers perspective it will no doubt be a challenging collaboration. Traditional Indian Raga is known for it's many peaks and valleys, multiple time changes, and extreme unpredictability. This single 60 minute piece will be featured and released as a full length Drum Dynasty CD, unofficial release date January 2009. Stay tuned for more details.

OK - In response to all the rumors about a Drum Dynasty follow-up CD I will tell you what I know. I just spoke to Bruce and it turns out he is back in the studio recording the follow-up CD entitled Machine Messiah. This CD will explore many spacey, pulsating type rhythms. Some of the drums & percussion on Machine Messiah will be electronic along with acoustic. .Bruce also wanted me to announce despite this radical new direction, there will still be plenty of primitive rhythms layered within the music. Should be amazing. Regardless of what comes out the other end Machine Messiah will no doubt be a far out drum experience. Unofficial release date - January 2009.

Bruce autographs yet another CD

The 15th Annual World Rhythm Festival (2008) located in Seattle Washington is finally over. Drummer Bruce Burgess was on hand to meet fans, sign autographs, and of course check out many of the live performances and workshops happening over the weekend around the Seattle Center. Also in attendance with Bruce was Katavi Arts Producer Cyrus Rhodes, Film Composer Kevin Christensen of Moonsounds, Studio Engineer Joel Martin of Pigboat Recording Studios and of course many of our friends including legendary percussionist Arturo Rodriguez himself. It was an amazing weekend. We'll be back next year.

MARCH 2008

Bruce recently teamed up with Seattle percussionists Arturo Rodriguez, Marco Zonka & film composer Kevin Christensen for "Drum Dynasty". This is a cutting edge drum CD that showcases advanced odd measure drum rhythms  meshed with world music. This self titled double CD explores African, Algerian, Haitian, Greek, & Arabic rhythms with hints of Yanvanlou, Masmoudi, Adowa, Hemiola, & Santeria along the way. Drum Dynasty is a must gem for any high-end drummer, but can take anyone down the primal path of indigenous drumming & intense world rhythms. Seattle Mixer Sam Hofstedt of Studio-X who has worked with the likes of Pearl Jam, & R.E.M mixed this Double CD.
